Speed it up!!!!!

I just answered a question about solve blocks in Prime, and wow, was that a horrible experience! The interface for Prime is so slow it's almost unusable! In fact, for any serious work, it is unusable! You need to do some serious work to speed the interface up (a lot!).

And, although you are no doubt tired of hearing it, the ribbon xxxxx. Since I no longer know the hot keys for almost anything I had to hunt and peck through the ribbon for every operator! With toolbars, even if you don't know the hotkey the operators are all one click away. There's no hunt-peck-hunt-peck-hunt-peck-hunt-peck-hunt-peck-hunt-peck-hunt-peck-hunt-peck...

I could have done the whole thing in about 1/10th the time in MC15 (and that is not just because I am more familiar with it). I know you are never going to change the ribbon, but at least make the interface work fast enough that it is usable!

Hi Richard,

Are you on XP or Win 7? Did you install the hotfix for XP? If not, check the directions in Read This First, which is in C:\Program Files\Mathcad\Mathcad Prime 1.0\Doc\language\Mathcad_Prime_RTF_en-US.pdf.

We are improving the performance for Mathcad Prime 2.0, and also adding support to take advantage of 64-bit processing.

I plan to make other drop-downs dockable like the Functions drop down. I don't know if that will make it into Prime 2.0 or later.

XP.

Did you install the hotfix for XP?

I sent you a very long e-mail about that at the end of October last year. Yes, I installed it. Then Mathcad Prime crashed on startup, and it also messed up my dotnet installation. If you recall, I then spent days uninstalling and reinstalling dotnet with and without the hotfix. I never did completely fix the mess it made of my dotnet installation, even with the help of people at MS. I also failed to install the hotfix without it crashing Prime on startup, so my current status is that the hotfix is uninstalled. A memory leak is a problem, but not as big a problem as not being able to run Prime at all. I wasn't aware it lead to any performance issues though, unless I leave Prime open for long enough that the memory leak becomes a serious problem. I don't think I had it open for that long, but maybe I did.

I'm not going to install the hotfix again though. At least, certainly not unless it's a newer version. If I have to uninstall it, that is a lot of work. I have to uninstall dotnet completely, clean the registry, reinstall it, and then go cyclically though all the Windows updates for dotnet. It's a painful process.

We corresponded privately, but I don't want others to be scared off of installing the Hotfix for Mathcad Prime 1.0 and XP. Richard installed a preliminary version during alpha testing. The final version of the hotfix was posted by Microsoft on December 9. If you have memory problems with Mathcad Prime 1.0, I suggest you install the hotfix, as detailed in the Read This First. We have received no reports of issues with the final hotfix that Microsoft posted. We also tested it inhouse.

We are implementing Mathcad Prime 2.0 with .Net 4.0, so the hotfix will no longer be necessary.

Yes, it worked for me this time. My hands are still shaking from the adrenalin, but apart from that all seems to be OK

Mona,

After being very frustrated with Prime 1.0's performance, I found this thread. When I go to the MS page, there are 8 files listed to download and no real instructions on what to do with them. I assume I only need 1 or 2 of them depending on my operating system but that's a bit cryptic. Do you know which files are for what or do I actually need them all?

Thanx

Tony

P.S. Also, you can find this solution here: http://communities.ptc.com/docs/DOC-2582

Vladimir,

Thanx for the response. I have those instructions, which are pretty complete. The issue is the instructions on Microsoft's page. Below is a screen shot of the page. There are 8 files here and no real instructions for how to apply the patch. Do I need to install all of these or just 1 or 2??? It looks as though there are different ones for each operating system but its pretty cryptic.

Ok, I downloaded them all. I didn't notice till I looked in the folder that only 2 of them are .exe files so I just ran the one matching my system. Hopefully this will work.

Thanx

Anthony,

One of them is for Windows 32-bit ("...x86.exe") and the other one for 64-bit ("...x64.exe").
