Style templates for journals

Style templates for journals

In order to make it easier to publish articles in professional journals using Mathcad models, I would like to have preset document styles that satisfy the style guides for the most popular journals, and/or a facility for the user to create these easily and add them in to the program for later selection.

For example, I am attaching a template worksheet that satisfies the International Journal of Chemical Reactor Engineering.

In addition to having the templates for different journals. we need to be able to change the style for an existing worksheet. This would allow us to choose the journal after the worksheet is complete. Currently, Mathcad can't change the style of an entire worksheet.

Finally, some of the journals may insist on left AND right justification. I don't know about Prime, but Mathcad 15 doesn't allow this. Fortunately, the journal mentioned above is willing to relax that preference.

Note: Until this option is present in Mathcad, maybe we could have a special location on the PTC.com site for these templates for sharing?

You can use the section "Documents" (http://communities.ptc.com/docs) to post and share document templates. Also, do not forget to mention for what version of Mathcad creates a document template.

Thanks for the suggestion, Vladimir. I've put it there, so we'll see if it gets used. Of course, that's only one journal.

I think there needs to be a more prominent location for these style templates. Why? I tried a search for style journal from the PTC.com search bar and it didn't find this document. I had to get into PlanetPTC before the search found it. Also, I had to know it was there. We need to be more pro-active in getting Mathcad publicized, and getting more people publishing directly from Mathcad may help. People need to be able to see that this feature is available when they are browsing the website.

There are two places these could be made more visual to someone new.

1. From the PTC home page, select the "View our resource centers" on the left side of the page. Then select "engineering calculations resources". The page that comes up has some selection options on the left. Under "Content Type" a new option "Journal Style Templates" could be created. When this option is checked, all style templates would be retrieved (probably a tag feature).

2. Another place is on the PlanetPTC pages. The "Browse:" buttons near the top (e.g. documents, videos, etc.) could have a new button (styles or style sheets).

You could also create a blog and upload all documents there.

I like this suggestion. If you create a document other forum members cannot upload files which in your case will be ideal. You can add multiple tags to the documents to aid searching.

Another good proposal. Maybe Dan will be able to suggest if either of these proposal are a possibility.

I agree with this. This will help in the search query on the site.

With this offer it is possible to address to Mona Zeftel.
