post-fix operators

post-fix operators

Mathcad version 15 has in-fix and post-fix operators; Prime never has, although there are numerous requests in the forum.

That is, I thought Prime didn't have a post-fix operator UNTIL I looked carefully at the units for temperature (°C and °F.)  Both of these are functions (masquerading as units) that convert the absolute temperature that Mathcad carries to the more commonly recognized temperature scales.  These are not simply ratios (like we would have to convert feet to millimeters) they require the addition or subtraction of numbers in addition to the ratio.

Two suggestions:

  1. Since Prime already knows about post-fix (demonstrated by temperature conversion) why can't this feature be provided to users as an operator?
  2. There have also been discussions about a dB function; but it should be possible to create a dB unit function along the thoughts of temperature.

I'd like to up-vote this, but the voting button seems to be disabled.  Is it for everyone, or just me?

Here's my up-vote!  👍

As more of the more glaring deficiencies in Prime get resolved, this enhancement request is rising to the top.  This feature should not be missing since °F and °C functions (and the companion /°F and /°C reverse functions) are already implemented this way.  All of the functionality is there, except for the user to be able to associate the reverse function with the forward function.   They can be defined, but using them in the units placeholder yields the error, no_inverse_declared.   It would seem that all we (users) need is the functionality to declare one function as the inverse of another [like /°F() is the inverse of °F()].   Everything else is there!  Hopefully, this comment will give this item a "visibility boost".

By the way, the inverse functions /°F and /°C should be on the Units drop-down on the Math Ribbon.

These are the ONLY way now to get temperature traces to plot in °F or °C in the 2D Chart Component.  Typing them in is a pain.

I had this in as a suggestion here: Inverse Affine Temperature Units, but it got archived by the moderator because no one upvoted it.
