How to create the classic complex conjugated operator (asterix instead of a bar)?

Both in maths and in engineering texts, the  complex conjugated of a number or a variable or a function, is indicated with an asterisk. My attempt to create the new operator c.c. Is not satisfactory, as can be seen from the following picture:

Can you do something better?
