Symbolic evaluation in mathcad

When I am trying to symbolicly evaluate an integral..it says "pattern match exception" and highlighted my expression in red.
What should I do?

the integral was to find the average momentum

of a harmonic oscillator

the wavefunction is C* x^2 *exp(ax^2)*exp(-b*i*t)

where C,a,b are just some real constants, x is position, and t is time. i is the imaginary number

I tried to put in the whole expression explicitly in the definite integral (integrating from negative infinity to infinity) .

but it gives me ""pattern match exception" and highlighted my expression in red as mentioned.

I tried to define the expression in a different name but it still does not work..

I cannot even take the derivative of my wavefunction w.r.t. x symbolicly.
Please let me know what is the correct way to do this.

I want the result to be symbolic...*sigh.

thank you

What version of Mathcad are you using? Mathcad 14 is known to have some difficulties with symbolic integrals....
Preferrably post a worksheet with your formulae.

Jean solved a set of integrals in Mathcad 11, showing that it can be done, but he used exp(a*x)^2 instead of exp(a*x^2). That 'll change the answer a bit, but all are solvable in Mathcad 11.

Luc

Could you post the worksheet.
