Table elements - looks like strings are not supported?

I'm starting to use tables a lot as a convenient way to enter groups of related data. In a spreadsheet-like way I would enter rows (or columns) of data that I want to annotate somehow. I've tried using strings (double quote) as elements and MCP seems to be unhappy with that. thoughts? suggestions? TIA! (Prime v11)

For some reason I thought I needed "1" as unit for a non-numerical type (not sure where I got that thought from) - when I remove the "1" from unit placeholder, everything is fine. My bad... Thanks @terryhendicott!
