mathcad 15 license does not work on virtual machine

When I try to run the program, I get this error message. The MAC address in the license file agrees with the network adapter 1 which is selected in the VM. How to fix?

The cause of this error may be due to one of the following:

  • The Host ID for which the license.dat file was generated is not the Host ID of the machine hosting the Network License Manager
  • Missing, corrupt, or incorrect characters in the license.dat file itself
  • The system time and date are not set properly. Check to make sure that the date and time are set correctly on the machine before proceeding below

Vlad,

How do I get new license file for Mathcad 15?

The MAC address for my oracle virtualbox VM is 08-00-27-8F-96-44

Mathcad stopped working when I updated my operating system from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

Try using the following - "Transferring Mathcad License from Existing Host ID to New Host ID":

  1. Commercial / Maintenance Active  Customer
  2. Student Edition or Mathcad Single User Account

Will these still work for old Mathcad 15 as well?

Anurag,

I did not get the reply I needed.

I am running Mathcad 15 on an Oracle virtualbox VM. The MAC address is 0800278F9644.

How do I request a license for this MAC address?

Thanks for your help,

Dan

Have you edited the licence file and changed the MAC address yourself? That would invalidate the licence file and at least the error message you posted suggests that this has happened.

How you get a licence file for your MAC address depends on what type of licence you have purchased.
You may be allowed to move the licence from one machine to another yourself - that in the online PTC licence management

License Management | PTC

Guess you will need that your cutomer ID,  Sales Order Number (SON) or  Service Contract Number (SCN). That site always is a little confusing maze to me.

If you are not allowed to manage the license yourself, you will need to contact official PTC support (this here is just a support forum where users of the software help others - it is not official PTC support).

PTC discontinued sales and support for Mathcad 15 some time ago. It is therefore quite possible that you will need PTC support in any case - not sure about that, though.

Are you sure that you have a perpetual licence for Mathcad 15?
If its a time limited license which expired, there would be as far as I know no (legal) way to activate it again because MC15 is not for sale anymore.

Perhaps @VladimirN  could post the correct PTC support contact addresses here - I suspect they also depend on the type of licence you have (flex, single user, commercial, education...).

Another way out could be to change the MAC of the virtual NIC of Oracle VBox to the one the license was issued for (the original untouched license file). I guess this should be possible, isn't it?

Yes Vlad, I am sure that it is a perpetual license. I have transitioned many times before between different machines. I just need a new license file to work with the new MAC address. If you could direct me to the correct contact that would be most helpful.
