Naming Guidelines and the use of dot in names

Hi, in the Thingworx Application Development Guide 1.0 on page 75 it's given Naming Guidelines for Reusable Components. It states to use a dot in the namespace.

When I use a dot I get the message: "Name contains invalid characters"

Are there any way around this or is it a recerved character for PTC developers?

Dot is allowed in between name but not at the beginning or end of the name. PFB screenshot for reference.
