Creo 1.0 License Utility - UNAVAILABLE (and other questions)

Edit: The URL for the License Utility worked! ..temporarily. I got the utility downloaded, which solved my issue. But now when I got back, it gives me a 404 again. It seems that when I manually type it in, it works, but when I click a link or copy / paste it, it gives me a 404?? Really weird. I attached a screenshot of it in 404 mode.

I also got what a google search reveals is a common issue, of the "Quality Agent" not being able to do whatever it needs to do. Right clicking creo and running as administrator solved the issue, as it allowed creo to do whatever it needs to do with the Quality Agent when I clicked "yes" to tell it to go ahead and do... whatever.

Hello, I was trying to get Creo 1.0 working on my computer, following the instructions here: http://support.ptc.com/appserver/wcms/standards/freefull_cs.jsp?&im_dbkey=151798&icg_dbkey=896

That page directs me to install the "Creo 1.0 License Utility" located at http://free-dl.ptc.com/install/Setup.exe That website gives me a 404 error. Which means that although Creo has been installed, I can't get the license file, because the program to use to get said file is nonexistent on PTC's website. I did find a zipped version of the program on another discussion here, but haven't tried it yet, since some other posters indicated it had issues (http://communities.ptc.com/thread/37018).

I did find different instructions here (http://apps.ptc.com/schools/references/install_creo1_student.pdf) that direct me to a website that should allow me to get a license file emailed to me (this site: http://www.ptc.com/go/license4creoschools). I put in my info, and should get a license emailed soon. However, that site says it is for "Creo Elements/Pro 5.0 Schools Edition Licensing" and not Creo 1.0 - will that license file still work, or should I try the zipped License Utility?

Additionally, when I bought my Creo textbook, it had a paper that directed me to ptc.com/go/sdcpublications/student . Despite buying my textbook at the start of this semester, the error message at that page says: "The Web Page, Download PTC Creo Student Edition for College or University, was retired on August 29, 2014." This of course led to the VERY frustrating journey that has Creo on my machine, but no license.

That same piece of paper has a product code, similar to the generic BK380201EDSCHOOLSEDITN on the various instructions linked above. Since it is apparently unique to me, is it still valid? Or will PTC have discontinued it, along with the website that paper directs me to?

Hi Keith,

Thank you for all of that informaton, I will look into those broken links.

Regarding the issue you described, i'm not entirely sure if you are still experiencing it. Is there anything that I can do to help?

Nope, no issues anymore. The link to the license utility does direct to setup1.exe, rather than setup.exe, and removing the 1 appears to solve the issue. I seem to recall other directions that had a proper link, so I'm not sure anymore if it was entering the URL manually, or removing the 1 that got things working.

I will note that I am still a bit annoyed by the fact that the textbook that I bought in early August had a website for getting the software that was made inactive in late August. It seems like you should keep all links active, or at least have them redirect to the proper place, for textbooks that are still in print.
