Lattice tool wont work as expected

Hello Creo users,

We are trying the new lattice tool and it doesn't work as expected.

Unfortunately we are not able to generate something 😞

The final output ist a minimal surface body deformed and not even attached to the part.

Before:

After:

It does not at all work like in this video here:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5jNDt2vZqw

Does anyone has an idea why this fails?

regards

Hi,

please do following steps:

  • upload your model
  • show what surfaces are selected
  • show lattice size and other numerical parameters

Hi,

thank you for your answer.

What surfaces do i select:

First I select the inner surfaces like so:

surface_1.pngThen I select the outer surfaces normal to X-direction on both sides (in the picture one of them is highlighted)

surface_2.png

Final it looks like this:

surface_3.png

Other lattice types work well with this surface selection.

See here:

other_lattice.png

If I switch to e.g. a Gyroid the cell moves to my initial coordinate system regardless of my selection of orientation.

The following parameters are used:

Does anyone have an ideal to overcome this bug?

Hi,

upload your model.

Martin Hanák

Also I suggest you to show the problem to PTC Support.

No ideas?

I am not allowed to upload any files from our systems 😞

Hi,

if you cannot upload the model, then (I hope) you can attach picture of Extrude section showing its shape and dimensions. Also you can publish the depth of Extrude feature. This information enables me to create a copy of your model. What do you think ?

Yes sure,

The thickness is 50mm. All dimensions in mm.

literally no shape works.

Thank you for helping me!

Hi,

I have to say that I am not lattice expert.

1.] I created closed quilt representing area you want to fill.

closed_quilt.png

2.] I selected the quilt as Lattice volume region

lattice_create.png

3.] I finished lattice feature

I used Creo Parametric 6.0.2.0.

Ok, I am impressed.

Thank you for your help.

This is truly some tricky error for us.

As you said:

We tried a regular solid body without STL or usage of additive tools.

We used a merged quilt as the definition volume for the lattice.

Still, it won't do any pattering and it won't show the preview in that light pink color.

We assume that our system is too weak or something version related gets in conflict.

In the log file, we get a "Creating lattice cell template..." and this won't change whatsoever and stays there forever.

Can you check your log file if this is the last log entry you see or during preview?

Also can you send me your model so that we can test it and be sure that our setup is not capable of doing it??

Thank you in advance!

Hi,

see attachment. Today I didn't check if this is the right model. I hope so.

Martin Hanák

Hi  multigrid,

The reason you can't generate the lattice is that you are selecting the STL surfaces, as you used the Additive MFG Build tools before the lattice creation. You could try to do the Lattice before selecting the build direction.

Thanks,

Alex
