Reviewing the September Robotalk Webinars: Getting Started with Mathcad

September was Mathcad month!

PTC's FIRST Program team decided to begin the year with Mathcad Prime because FIRST participants can use Mathcad's capabilities in their STEM classes at school as well as when designing a robot. In fact, we believe that if students use Mathcad in math, science, and engineering classes at school, they will be better able to apply their subject matter knowledge in FIRST Robotics. Thus, Mathcad was a logical place to start the Robotalk season.

Weeks 1-3 introduced Mathcad's interface to the participants, taught basic skills of creating an engineering worksheet, and demonstrated Mathcad's tools for both numeric and algebraic (CAS) solutions to problems. The specific content of these webinars can be reviewed in previous blog posts.

Week 4's webinar began with a demonstration of Creo & Mathcad integration. Using a video prepared by PTC's Roger Yeh, the participants were introduced to a high level engineering process combining engineering calculations with design geometry. I posted a blog with this video the morning after the webina.

Week 4: http://communities.ptc.com/community/academic-program/first/blog/2012/09/26/accessing-and-using-sensor-data-mathcad-webinar-4

Due to illness, I was a little behind on the video tutorials for Week 4. I am happy to say that they are now complete. I have produced the tutorial in 2 parts. The video tutorial are below and the worksheet used in the tutorial are attached in a .zip folder at the bottom of this blog post. I focused on these applications because I was receiving a lot of requests for help with data analysis in Mathcad. I hope that these tutorials will get teams started. If you need further assistance please use the comment field at the bottom of the blog to submit your request and I will make sure to post an update.

Part 2: Importing Sensor Data and Modeling Relationship with Curve Fitting

Where else can the videos be accessed?

The entired series of tutorial videos that I created are also available as a playlist on Youtube. The videos provide 90 minutes of demonstrations in 5 parts. The videos were designed to be useful to all new users to Mathcad Prime, particulalry those teachers and students who want to apply mathematics in their courses or participate in engineering programs such as FIRST:
