V-Tail

When designing the tail on their owning a tail for the aircraft, would a team still have to use the MathCad files designed for a traditional tail? Or would the team be required to develop their own tail without the aid of MathCad?

Hi Jesse,

I have uploaded modified tail configuration worksheets to assist you with creating your V-Tail.

You can find the zip file of these files at the bottom of the Getting Started Page.

Mr. Fischer,

Thanks for helping out with the V-Tail MathCad worksheet. However we are having a problem in the performance V6 Worksheet connecting the V-Tail MathCad worksheet specifically referring to the Vertical Tail Aerodynamic Center. For some reason it is not calculating it. Would we need this variable to finish the calculations? How should we resolve this issue?

Thanks,

Jesse Dews

Hi Jesse,

In the Performance V6 worksheet under the Vertical Tail Parameters section, you will see a button above the Vertical Tail Planform Area that says Include and has a file path listed next to it. You will need to click the Include button and browse to your new V-Tail worksheet.

Next you will need to change the Aerodynamic Center variable in the Performance V6 worksheet to match the AC variable in the V-Tail Definition worksheet.

Once you perform each of these steps, your Performance V6 worksheet will recalculate and you will see that the Aerodynamic Center is now correct. If it doesn't recalculate immediately, open the Calculation tab in the ribbon and click Calculate.

Hope this helps!

Curtis
