Patrick Ryan present for the first twenty minutes. Newport News Shipbuilding (NNS) is an early adopter of industrial augmented reality (AR). After many pilots and projects, the company is preparing the first large scale roll-out of AR technology for industrial use. In this first half of the presentation, Patrick discussed the use-case approach and terminology from the NNS perspective, and how return-on-investment and technology-readiness-levels are assessed and managed prior to a deployment. Several specific examples of new AR projects at NNS were illustrated. Patrick concluded with a discussion of principle challenges associated with industrial augmented reality. Dan Arczynski presented for the second twenty minutes. Index AR Solutions, is an AR engineering services and AR software company that develops and deploys augmented reality-based solutions on mobile devices to solve industry client challenges. Launched in January 2014 by former NNS and HII executives, Index has teamed up with NNS and boasts a resume of over five years of AR research, AR software development and over fifty deployed AR projects. Dan discuss how AR technology is “ready now” for deployment, the top and bottom line impact companies should expect, enablers and obstacles to adoption and how companies will adopt over time using a “6P” approach. Finally, Dan will provide his prospective on a five, ten and fifteen year outlook for Industry AR.
