PTC Windchill's packages are the heart of iRobot's improved vendor quoting process. The presenter will explain how they were able to redesign the process and drastically change the effort needed from days to hours. The presenter will share the history of the process and the changing needs of the company that led to the undertaking of this project. Within PTC Windchill, the presenter will highlight the different ways to interact with the package feature and achieved the goal iRobot wanted. Their main objective was to remove as much user frustration as possible, and make the process as repeatable as possible so that almost anyone in the company would be able to run it. By giving users a traceable mechanism to transfer data, it became easier to interact with vendors and customers. Customers and vendors are able to see what data has been sent out, who sent it, when it was sent. This made it easier to uncover issues with the data, and ensure quotes reflect accurate data. Finally, the presenter will explain what customizations were implemented to the system and the rationale behind them. While, configurations got them most of the way, there were some areas they felt justified the effort behind customizing.
