Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

We had ordered a bunch of product codes (student license) and experience the problem that they are not accepted when we try to install Mathad 15.

The product codes all start with MP010111EA.... an because of the MP I suppose they are intended for MC Prime. We are not (yet) interested in Mathcad Prime and don't want to have to install Prime first simply to get a valid license file which then works for MC 15 too. It is also not reasonable to have every student to call technical support, give them his product code and MAC-Adress to get a valid license file.

I thought that Mathcad 15 and Mathcad Prime share license file AND product code but it seems that this is not true at least for the product code.

Are we doing something wrong or is there a simple solution available?

Thanks an sincerely

Read these online instructions. They should help you. Look at the bottom of the page, where it describes how to use your Mathcad Prime 1.0 license file with Mathcad 15.

That's the case on my machine.

Re: Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

I forgot to ask what operating system are you using?

Mike

Re: Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

According to those instructions it looks like you are forced to install Prime first and then point the license manager of MC15 to the prime license file. I had already found those instructions an therfore knew it works that way. But as already written we do not want to install Prime because we have no use for a version without symbolics and 3D graphs and it is rather uncomfortable to force all our students to install Prime just to get a license file for MC15.

If its true, that this is the only way to install Mathcad 15 I wonder, why the installation routine of Version 15 asks for a product code anyway.

I excepcted the product code to work for Prime AND MC15. If I understand your answer right you were lucky and had been able to install V15 with the Prime product code? Maybe a limitation of the student edition because they want people to beta test Prime?

Regarding your question about the OS in use. The installation failed on different machines for different people - OS is in most cases Win7, sometimes Win XP.

Sincerely

Re: Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

That wasn't the case with installing M15 on my home machine.

Do you have the 30 days of technical support, especially to help with installation issues. Log your problem here, https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/mathcad_case_logger/options.jsp and check Installation.

Someone should be able to help you,

Hope that helps.

Re: Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

Support can help with ONE license only. If you tell them the product code and your MAC-address they send you a valid license file for that one computer. So you have the choice whats less uncomfortable: dealing with the PTC support and waiting for the file to arrive per mail OR installing a software you do not intend to use and know you will uninstall a moment later.

We have a set of 1000 licenses and are searching for a solution which is as comfortable for our students as possible.

To be honest, I can't see the issue with installing a product like Prime and just leaving it on the machine, why delete it? Even if you have not intension of using it, letting your students familiarize themselves with the software will only help as Prime is the future of Mathcad, and Mathcad Prime 2.0 has both of the features you need.

I agree with this.

Re: Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

Being forced to install two software packages, while you need only one of them means, that we have to distribute both of them resp. the students have to download both and it means that the time needed for installation is doubled. Installation instructions we have to provide are getting longer and more confusing as would be necessary. The reason why they have to download and intstall a second version of the program which is not used in education is not really easy to communicate. We would prefer to present Prime as a free to choose option if someone likes to take a look in the future (or needs some better looking graphs).

Its bad enough we have to cover in our instructions the need for "Microsoft XML-Parser Version 4.0 Core Services SP2" and "Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Redistributable Package SP1 (x86)" - how to find out if they are already installed and where to get them if not. Mathcad should do that itself during installation and install the necessary preliminaries automatically.

I agree it could be a benefit to install both versions to familiarize with future releases, but I don't like beeing forced to do so. Personally I am not the beta-version-tester or early adopter type of user. If a tool fulfills my needs I have no problem staying with it, even if its not the brand-new release. We felt that the change to Mathcad 15 would be necessary because we resp. our students experienced too much troubles with MC14 and WIN7.

Anyway, the question is still unanswered: Is it possible (or should it be possible) to install Mathcad 15 (student license) using the MP... product code without installing Prime or calling support or not?

I'm sure every student wouldn't have to download the software individually, would they? I also believe the installation is self explanatory.

Maybe it would be worth contacting Mona through this site directly, she might be able to shed some light on this or point you in the right direction.

Try creating a query in PTC (for product Mathcad Student Edition) here: https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/mathcad_case_logger/options.jsp

And here is a video how to use this support:

Re: Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

There's a different set of instructions here that do not seem to require you to do anything with Prime:

Mathcad 15 Licensing Instructions

Re: Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

That instructions describe it as it should be and as we are used from Mathcad 14. Unfortunately that (Prime) product codes are rejected as invalid during this installations process. Tech support wrote back first that "you have a Mathcad Prime productcode. You need a license file first to be able to use the software" - cute, but we knew that and it was exactly the license file the PTC server refused to send. As support offered to generate a license file when we send the MAC address we accepted and got the answer "I can't send you a license. With your product code a Mathcad Prime license can be generated only!."

Obviously tech support does not know that Prime and 15 use the same license file!? Does this shed some light an how that product is supported?

Re: Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

Here are some answers from the "Mathcad 15.0 Knowledge Base Articles", which can be found here: https://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/kdb.jsp?Product=Mathcad&Release=15.0&DocType=kdb_article

What is Mathcad Product Code and where it can be located?

Product Code is 22 characters in length and is required to install Mathcad15.0 Student Edition. General format of product code is Jxxxxxxxxxxxxxx - xxxx - xxxx.

If Mathcad 15.0 Student Edition is purchased from PTC Web Store, Product Code can be found on the Order Confirmation E-mail as "Digital Rights" or you can locate the Product Code printed in the card inserted in the DVD package.

Also, customers who purchased Mathcad through the PTC Web Store can find their Product Code by entering Order Number and password at http://www.findmyorder.com/

What do I need to do if I missed out my Product Code of Mathcad 15.0?

Users who purchased Mathcad 15.0 Student Edition through PTC Web Store can find their Product Code by entering Order Number and password at http://www.findmyorder.com/ Or can contact PTC Web Store with your Order Number.

Where can I find the latest datecode for Mathcad 15.0 Student Edition?

Mathcad 15.0 updates can be downloaded from http://www.ptc.com/support/mathcad_downloads.htm.

How can I get Mathcad 15.0 license?

a. While installing Mathcad 15.0, the license can be retrieved automatically over the internet.

b. Log a call with PTC License Management through Web call logger to get the manual license file using the appropriate link below.

Customers who purchased Mathcad 15.0 Student Edition use the Call logger at

http://www.ptc.com/appserver/cs/mathcad_logger/options.jsp

How do I get the license file if online activation fails or if I do not have an internet connection?

The user can request for a license manually by providing Mathcad 15.0 Product Code and physical address of Ethernet adapter LAN (MAC address) using call logger as mentioned in Article # 1. The license file will be sent via E-mail.

What information I need, to get a license file for Mathcad 15.0 Student Edition?

User needs to have the Mathcad 15.0 Product Code and physical address of Ethernet adapter LAN (MAC address).

I hope it helps.

WE,

I moved this discussion into the Schools Program community for further visibility.

Re: Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

Dan,

Looking at the posting frequency of this hidden and rather unknown corner of that community, I think that your arbitrary message moving is much more for further INvisibility, possibly on purpose.

As You may have noticed, it's primarily a Mathcad question, and even though its dealing with student licenses, its not a specific academic or school theme.

"Is it possible to install and license Mathcad 15 without prior installation of Prime, given that you ordered a bunch of MC15 product codes and got delivered Prime+MC15 wih Prime product codes??"

One would think that it should be a very simple question which could be quickly answered by some knowing people, maybe even PtC staff, but my experience so far attest the opposite. Your moving action is just one more sad facette.

Re: Mathcad 15 student product code invalid

MC_User,

It's the Internet, there's no hiding of posts. Nor would it be in the best interest of the community to do so. If anything, I would want this discussion front and center so it's answers can be paid forward to other users experiencing the same issue.

The Academic and School communities strictly deal with Student versions/licenses of PTC software. If the question was regarding the student version of Creo or Windchill, I would use the same discretion and move it to this community as well.

The Academic community (and its sub-communities) are staffed part-time by PTC employees (unlike the product communities) and is therefore further reason to relocate the discussion.
