Hello,
I have been using Wildfire 4 student edition for a while and all of a sudden it opens but then closes. Its strange because nothing has changed on my PC, my host id is still the same also. I tried a reinstall and requested a non internet needed license from PTC but the new non internet license does the same thing. I know prior to Wildfire 5 that student edition licenses did not expire after one year so it cant be an expired license.
Thank you,
Neil Smith
Hi,
if it starts and immediately crashes then something changed. For example graphics drivers ...
Please look into startup directory defined in ProE startup shortcut. If it contains files with current date (for example std.out), show us their contents.
Also you can create config.pro file (created in Notepad) in startup directory, put following option into it and test ProE launching.
graphics win32_gdi
MH
Hello,
No nothing has changed. I even tried using a backed up copy hard drive from several months ago when it was for sure working and it does the same thing.
The exception code is the standard generic code for error "Exception - code was -1073741819."
I have that "graphics win32_gdi" in my config.pro already.
I have seen it do this before when not connected to the internet and unable to ping PTC.
Thank you,
Neil Smith
You don't just happened to have a wireless network card (or a change to the network card), do you? Possibly the wireless got turned on and that causes the license to think it's looking at the wrong MAC address on the network card.
Always been using wireless card. And the driver hasn't been updated since 2009. Also when I try reinstalling WF4 student it shows same host id as it always has.
My graphics driver hasn't been updated since 2015.
I have been using WF4 student on this pc since like 2012.
There has been only one change I can think of and that is my internet provider replaced and upgraded my cable modem. That should not matter should it?
Thank you,
Neil Smith
Hi,
you can try some cleaning ...
MH
Removed PTC folder in APPDATA and still no go.
This is crazy, I paid for this software. Can I log my problem with PTC help some way?
Thank you,
Neil Smith
Hi,
I think that PTC will ignore you if you ask them, because you are using WF4. I expect they suggest you to install Creo 3.0 or 4.0.
Can you post output of ipconfig /all command (entered in Command Prompt window ?
What operating system do you use ?
MH
Hello,
Install Creo 3.0 or 4.0? would it work with my license and be "permanant"?
I use win7 home and here is my hostid, software auth code, and result of ipconfig/all
My host ID - 00-1D-E0-73-69-DB
My Product auth code - BE360808ED8473-YWGH-GGC3

Thanks for the help!

Neil,
INFO: Creo 3.0 student license generated automatically during Creo installations is time limited. It lasts 1 year and users must renew the license every year.
Maybe you can do a test ... try disabling unused Network Adapters in following dialog box, restart PC a test Creo launching.
MH
Ok, tried disabling the other adapters and still dosnt work. I also tried disabling the wifi and then re-enabling it and nothing.
Im at my wits end with this. I really appreciate the help guys. Someone must have a solution. Here is a question, does anyone have a working wildfire 4.0? Has PTC shut it down?
Thank you,
Neil Smith
Neil,
tomorrow I can do test installation on PC with Windows 7 64-bit SP1 for you, if you want.
What ProE WF4 Mxxx should I install ?
Should I install 32-bit or 64-bit version ?
Note 1: PTC cannot disable running ProE WF4. If you have permanent license, it must work "to infinity".
Note 2: I think that your solution cannot be solved remotely. Try to find some experienced user and ask him to sit at your computer and look for solution.
MH
"tomorrow I can do test installation on PC with Windows 7 64-bit SP1 for you, if you want." I'm not sure I understand, do you have WF4? or are you going to use my auth code? If so, I thought it was registered to my machine only. Can I install it on another machine I own?
If you own it then yes please try it.
Win 7 32bit updated current.
WF 4 student M020
When I say permanant license, I mean prior to WF5 student editions did not expire after 1 year. Correct?
Experienced user? I have been using non student Pro-e at work since 2000. I am a Designer Drafter.
Thank you,
Neil Smith
Neil,
on my PC ProE WF4 M020 32-bit starts and after a couple of seconds crashes with error Exception - code was -1073741819 written in std.out file, too.
It seems to me that the root of the problem is incompatibility between ProE WF4 M020 and Windows 7 with all patches installed.
PTC supported ProE WF4 M020 on Windows XP and Windows Vista, only ... so this version is not supported on Windows 7.
Suggestion: Try to get newer installation medium (M100, M200, ... I do not know where ...) and install it. Then keep fingers crossed that it works ... .
MH
Martin,
I would agree with you but If you look back in my posts, I have a completely cloned hard drive from a year or so ago when I know it was working. I tried swapping drives to the older one and it still did the same thing.
If you can, Try another install with a windows version known to work and see what happens.
Thanks,
Neil Smith
Neil,
on my PC ProE WF4 M220 32-bit starts without problems.
Suggestion: Make clean Windows 7 installation from installation DVD, do not update it and test PC ProE WF4 M020 32-bit.
Note: Please do not expect that I'll send you installation medium of M220. I hope you can download it at work.
MH
Did a clean install of windows 7 sp1, and reinstalled WF4 student. Still doing the same thing. Opens and then a few seconds closes.
I really belive PTC has shut down the student versions prior to the ones that have a year license. I havent found anyone that can run WF4 student anymore.
Thank you,
Neil Smith
Because this is an issue with a student license, I am moving this to the Academic community to give it more exposure.
Best,
Toby
I had the same problem even contacted PTC support. But no luck, the only answer was that they stopped supporting WF4. The only thing that works is to disconnect the computer from the internet then WF4 works fine. I figured that PTC disabled the software when it discontinued support.
I tried disabling my wifi adapter but it wont even start pro then. I also tried unplugged my cable modem and it starts pro but then shuts it right down just as it does if connected to internet.
I understand PTC can stop supporting software but how is it legal to disable the use of it? I paid for it because it wasn't limited by time like the newer stuff is.
Thank you,
Neil Smith
Hi,
get ProE WF4 M220 installation medium somewhere and install it. I hope it will work.
MH
Come to think of it... I got a message from Draftsight that I needed an update because some sort of certificate expired. Maybe this is a similar issue. And apparently Dassault puts a lot more effort into the user base of FREE software than PTC puts in its paying customers (that could be the large accounts of tomorrow). But that would require thinking beyond the end of the next quarter.
They could also offer an upgrade path to the current software version, wouldn't that be original!
