i had been using PROE Student Edition4 since 7/2010 with no problems on a Lenovo T400.
In 2014 i installed a trial version of Creo Elements which apparently expired recently. I
tried to use it and it displayed a expired license notice.
when i tried to use my PROE 4 a warning display showed:
License request failed for feature PROE Student Edition4: -9
Invalid host
Displaying status for license file: C:\Program Files(x86)\ProEngineer Student Edition\text\licensing\license.dat
License server: none
License in use Free Version
Expire Date SCN
PROE Student Edition4 Uncounted 29.0 None Student Edition4 Locked to: 00-1E-65-AA-7F-B6
i tried to reactivate with the CD1, but was denied as maximum number of activations had occurred.
i uninstalled, but kept the license.dat file), reinstalled from CDs with reference to the original license.dat file,
but get the same warning.
i notice the physical address with the install displays: 00-24-7E-DA-23-A4 which differs from PTC Host_ID.
my original install notation indicated the same addresses, but i have no info what happened to expedite the install.
did the expired trial version kill my original PROE4 license?
am i now SOL uninstalling with no good license file & unable to get activation?
or is there some host server that is lost?

Hi,
1.] Enable Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN network card and check if its MAC address is 00-1E-65-AA-7F-B6 (Student Edition4 Locked)
2.] In Registry_NetworkCards.pdf I found record related to RT73 USB Wireless LAN Card, this external USB LAN card was probably attached to your notebook. Maybe it has MAC address is 00-1E-65-AA-7F-B6. Do you know something about this card ?

Good day Lenny,
I have moved this to the Academic Support area to get the right eyes on your question.
For the fastest response to your issue, your best bet is to fill out the PTC Academic Request Form, it is this team who handle all issues related to our PTC student edition software.
Best,
Toby
thanks for direction. did so.

Hi,
please answer a few simple questions:
1.] Are you still using the same Lenovo T400 with the same operating system ?
2.] How many network cards does your Lenovo T400 contain ?
3.] Are all network cards enabled ?
3.] What MAC addresses are related to network cards(s) ?
4.] What entries are available in system registry (run regedit) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\NetworkCards ?

Martin, thanks for your reply.
1.] Are you still using the same Lenovo T400 with the same operating system ?

with further reflection, there were some months that passed without me accessing Pro4. So what happened first i do not know.
the only events that occurred was the trial version of creo/express expiring and i had some connectivity issues on my home
network so had installed new router and switch. again no touching T400 laptop.
thanks for any insight to this inconvenience,
lenny

hi martin,
you figured it!
1.] Enable Intel(R) WiFi Link 5100 AGN network card and check if its MAC address is 00-1E-65-AA-7F-B6 (Student Edition4 Locked)
Enabled it and displayed ipconfig /all. listed below. yes, that is the missing address/card.
2. Only usb attachment is to KVM box.
PROE4 started up without error. i will have to think about why install used
wireless instead of LAN. i guess it was enabled even though i only used ethernet.
much thanks for the guidance. what a relief.

Lenny,
it is nice to hear that everything is OK .
Just one information for you. Installer used WiFi, because it was enabled and also because it is defined as first network card in Windows - its ID is 13 (see Registry_NetworkCards.pdf). On the other side LAN card is defined as last network card in Windows - its ID is 8.
13 < 8 because comparison is made alphabetically (not numercally).

Hi Lenny,
Unfortunately, the PROE Student 4 is no longer officially supported by PTC. I would recommend that you upgrade to Creo 3.0 (the most recent version) through the PTC store: https://Store.ptc.com
Alternatively, K-12 Educators, K-12 Students and University students can register for PTC Creo 3.0 Student Standard using this link. http://www.ptc.com/academic-program/products/free-software
Regards,
Abdul
thanks, abdul,
i would like to continue using pro4 with the "perpetual license" as i have for the
last six years. i've learned to ride this bike, know i could adapt those skills to the
latest techno- version, but for my simple needs, i was happy and impressed with
the ease of modeling.
sincerely,
lenny
