For the recently release national challenge, there is no detail information on the area of the three search zones. There is only the indicate angle of the 250 degree on the national challenge statement. However, the search area’s diagram contain the in the statement of does not appear to be draw to scale. The calculated angle of zone 3 is bigger than zone 1 but the diagram shows area of zone 1 is greater than zone 3. Therefore, our team would like to know what would be the angle of each search zones reference to the East axis.
Thank you
Hi Ting-Wen,
If you are referring to the RWDC Aviation National Challenge Problem Statement PDF file downloaded from www.ptc.com/go/rwdcgettingstarted, the diagram is correct. Zone 1 is the largest of the 3 zones with the largest angle. I would recommend recalculating the angle of Zone 1 (should be 250deg - 90deg) and the angle of Zone 3 (should be 360deg - 250deg). By recalculating these angles, you will be able to find the correct area calculations as well.
Hope this helps! Send me a private message if you have further questions.
