Windchill register server not woking

We have been up and running with Windchill for several months, however, the server connection info has been lost on some computers.

All attempts to register new server to get connected again fail.

Per the PTC Windchill setup instructions, we enter the following string in the location field to connect to the server:

https://firstrobotics.ptc.com/Windchill/

Is the server down? overloaded? OR has the connection info changed.

Appreciate any help!

Thank you

Paul, I'm going to assume there is a mix up in your server connection definitions, especially if you were using the old URL at one point. Assuming everything on your local machine has been saved, uploaded and checked in, you can remove all the local files and start over. to do this, you'll need to Delete the following folders.

  • %appdata%\PTC\ProENGINEER\Wildfire (local workspace cache)
  • %appdata%\PTC\Creo\Platform\ServerMgr (local server connection cache)

Once removed, you can start Creo Parametric and enter the server registration again: https://academic.ptc.com/Windchill

Let me know if that works for you.

Paul, not sure if you have some outdated materials or incorrect materials, but the Academic Windchill server URL is https://academic.ptc.com/Windchill.

Thanks Scott,

Unfortunately that does not work.

The computer has both Creo 2.0 and Creo 3.0, and I'm wondering if that might be the cause but I have no idea how to fix.

Scott,

Thanks so much for the info.

This will be a much better solution to re-installing Creo and everything which we had to do on a students computer.

On my computer, I was able to locate the cache folders and found a backup copy of the cache.

Copying this off then renaming the backup to the primary allowed me to get it working again.

So far things seem to be working ok.

If I delete the backup cache folders, will it automatically create new backup folders that can be used if this happens again?

Thanks again for your help, we really appreciate it.

Paul

Glad to hear that worked for you. Yes the cache folders will be created automatically if you remove or move them on your local machine. Restoring an old copy would be a bad idea since it will more than likely contain "stale" data and will undoubtedly cause some corruption of the local data. As long as you upload or check in your files, you'll always have your data on the Windchill server.

This doesn't work or is out of date, or incomplete information or whatever.
