Simple 2D plot help

I am trying to create a simple 2D plot which shows the distance to pre-defined coordinates from origin. I can successfully plot the required data but have to manually input each vector element of Y & X for the lines indicating the distance from origin.

Can anyone suggest changing the method of plotting so this is done automatically?

The symbols in the graph update when additional elements are added to the input vectors, but the lines indicating the distance from the origin have to be manually inputted.

Cheers

Mike

You need a matrix with one column for each line. Rather than creating two matrices for X and Y you can create one matrix with real and imaginary parts.

Cheers Richard,

I know I said simple, but that was an almost instantaneous reply.

I draw lines that way all the time. It's one of those tricks that's obvious, but only after you have been told how to do it 🙂

Still not sure why you need to create real & imaginary parts, but then again as plots are one of my weaker subjects in Mathcad. a bit of extra reading is in order.

Cheers again.

You don't need to. You could generate 2 matrices, one for X and one for Y. Or you can generate one matrix, with the X coordinates stored in the real part and the Y coodinates stored in the imaginary part. I personally prefer the one matrix approach because keeps all the coodinates in one place. Tom also uses the one matrix approach, as does the book "Creating Amazing Images...". It doesn't have to be done that way though.

I have extracted a section from the "Creating Amazing Images" E-book and attached a .*gif image giving a brief description of complex numbers in Mathcad for anybody following this thread and is a newbie to this kind of graphing.

Mike

For this kind of graphic, "geometric graphic", the matrix representation is from common sense because it will support "geometric operation". Differently, for many ordinary or vector operations, the X,Y is the only way. What I mean: nuance the categorising . I passed the "Triangle" work sheet about 1 ½ month ago but can't link to it, because can't retrieve. This site degrades from day to day, rather it degrades intentionally from complaint to complaint, just to show who is the $ boss. There is no way to retrieve what I have posted past few days only. I have passed > 2 dozen gorgeous tools. PTC data based is already saturated and the ones to kill is Mathcad, PTC shooting in their foot, and next in their feet.

Maybe but:

"Oops ! Google Chrome could not find http"

I'm Google Chrome since last sunday 080810

same happened before Chrome.

What do you propose ?

What does PTC propose ?

I propose ½ hr morning and night visit.

Whether Chrome or PTC, can't insert in-line

image any more, who cares .

Jean,

Firefox could not find the http link either.

What do I propose - PTC sort this

What does PTC propose - probably nothing.

Mike, you have an extra "//www.http" in the hyperlink you posted. You may have inadvertently posted the link, then inserted the hyperlink over it.

Your link - http://www.http.com//communities.ptc.com/message/148393#148393

Working link - http://communities.ptc.com/message/148393#148393

Richard,

Just for interest I have posted an example of your original function and two functions I have modified.

There is a built in function shown in the image "R2C" - Think it needed a little extra programming to complete my original request though. Hence the program.

Trying to understand your very original demand " all from origin & automatic"

Here is "all from origin" and automatic if you have those vectors from calculations.

If the vectors aren't from previously calculated, you will have to enter manually.

Cheers Jean,

Another good example.
