Solution to the compatibility problem MathCad 14 with Windows 7

Dear Folks!

I found the solution to the problem mentioned:

The problem is that MathCad 14 does not work correctly under windows 7 (32 and 64).

The solution:

Install MS Visualstudio 2005 prof edition before installation of MathCad. (I do not know wich components of it helps, but it solved the problem)

I hope it helps for someones!

I am not sure which posting you are referring to, but for whatever its worth:

If you want to install Mathcad 14 on a clean Windows 7, you must check that the following is installed:

In your case it seems that the latter was missing.

Dear Werner!

There were some post sin this subject 2 years before. I red them, cause I had a problem on windows 7 os and mathcad 14. There was no solution there, Finally i found the solution unintentionally elsewhwre, but the previous posts were years ago i thought it is better to post as new one.

Your solution req. less storage cap. then mine, Visual studio aprox 2.6 GB.

I found all comp u mentioned, except MDAC 2.6 or later. How can I find a package to install it?

Its not my solution, you can findit here in the forum

and I think it was in the release notes of MC14. As MC14 never was released to be compatible with anything higher than Win XP, Win7 is not covered in the notes. Compatibility with Win7 seemed to have been a major reason for the release of MC15.

On my Mathcad 14 (M020) CD there is a directory \PreReq which includes, among others (dotnetfx, langpack, msxml), the file MDAC_TYP.EXE.

But according to the thread I mentioned above, MDAC seems to be obsolete under Win7. While I use MC15 I still stick with WinXP, so I lack personal experience. Another thread even suggests a registry hack http://communities.ptc.com/message/160838#160838 to get MDAC 2.6 to install.

Release notes for MC14 are here: http://www.ptc.com/WCMS/files/98347/en/Mathcad_14_M035_RELNOTES.HTM

Systme Requirements are here: http://www.ptc.com/WCMS/files/98347/en/Mathcad_14_M035_RELNOTES.HTM#System_Requirements

M035 was the latest maintainance relase before PTC decided to release MC14 M040 as MC15 F001.

If you are entitled to uprade you would do better to stay with M030 as M035 has a bad memory leak problem making it necessary to kill the process in task manager after closing Mathcad.

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1 can be found here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=5793

Hi Vladimir,

yes, MDAC (or Windows DAC as it is named since Vista) should be downloadable from that address. I already tried some hours ago (as I wanted to post that link, too) but to no avail. Seems to be dead.

Or just overloaded.

Or just overloaded.

Could be, but then - for that long time? And other M$ download sites were working!

Did you check it? Did it load on your side?

I've tried, it is working, i could have downloaded it.

Interesting, I just tried it again and the site does not load for a quarter of an hour now. No error, no site, just loading. Probably a problem on my side here.

Try this direct link from Microsoft site ("Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1"):

http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/a/a/4aafff19-9d21-4d35-ae81-02c48dcbbbff/MDAC_TYP.EXE

Thank you, but I have no need for the file myself. And as Zoltan had succes with your link I guess it was a problem on my side. BTW, the original link now would work for me, too.

Ok.

That was a 9 month old post! 😉

And so?

No problem, I just wondered about the deeper sense of following such an old post (and the problem was already solved, too) with that "Ok" and thought you might not be aware of the age of that post.

This my post was on Feb 25, 2013: http://communities.ptc.com/message/228245#198236

Sorry, I didn't looked close enough to spot that. I wonder why this thread was on top of the "What is everyone doing" list with a current date. I clicked on it an came directly to your "OK" and was confused as I thought it was a fresh post.
