can someone please explain to me how you determine which indicator to use for certain solutions? in a recent experiment, we titrated NaOH with ethanoic acid. Our teacher tried to explain to us the end solution was basic using some equations, eg,: NaOH + CH3COOH NaCH3COO + H2O Na+ + CH3COOH Na(+) + CH3COO(-) CH3COO - + H2O CH3COOH + OH(-) CH3COO - + H3O(+) CH3COOH + H2O
And she said since the solution is slightly basic, we should use the indicator phenophalein. How did she come to this conclusion?
