mathcad 14 - worksheets appear blank

Hi. I have just installed Matchcad 14 (and since repaired, uninstalled and reinstalled) along with some ready made work sheets provided by the OU. When I open a work sheet it appears blank, however as I scroll I can see flashes of the images that should be on screen - most strange!

Has anyone seen this before? Any idea what I can do?

This problem has left the uni helpdesk scratching their heads.

Cannot remember that I ever heard of that kind of error.

Maybe it helps to privde more information:

Wich maintainance version of Mathcad do you use? (M035 was the lasted)

Which OS (version, 32/64bit)? Which colordepth?

Does the error affect every worksheet you open or only some specific (which, what do they contain)?

What happens if you create a worksheet yourself from scratch?

I have no particular idea, just poking around.

Hi,

I have M020 installed, maybe worth looking for the later one?

OS is windows 7, 64 bit. Colourdepth? I'm not sure what that is, sorry. The desktop theme is set to "basic" following advice on an FAQ,

It effects every worksheet, and also when I start a new worksheet, I can't see anything I type.

Thanks.

M035 has a HUGE memory bug. You have to shut it down via the taskbar. M030 was more stable and, at a previous employer, I ran it on a Windows 7 64 bit machine. Before you go around buying maintenace agreements, etc, make sure you have the required software installed on your computer. Search the forum for the requirements. Try installing both dotnetfx and msxml from the PreReq installation folder as they are not preloaded in Windows 7.

If you have access to higher maintainance releases I would give it a try. It is said to better stay with M030, as M035 has some kind of memory leak and the problem that (part of) it stays resident after termination. Even better of course would be to use version 15 😉

In the past people quite often reported about problems with the combination of MC14 and 64bit. But as I remember this mostly effects installation and MC wouldn't run at all. But maybe its worth a try to search for the elder postings and look at the workarounds.

Are the prereqisites for MC14 installed on your machine? As I looked up thats.NET 2.0, MSXML4.0 SP2, and MDAC 2.6. Ususally it has to be that exact version, nothing newer.

Concerning colordepth - affects the number of different colors beeing able to be displayed, running from 32bit /truecolor down) I was asking as there seems to be a bug (even in the newest MC15) that 3D-graphs are not displayed correct with 64bit systems set to 32-bit.

Did you report the error to PTC support? Not sure if its still http://www.ptc.com/support/mathcad_contacts.htm. ??

I have .Net 4 so that might need addressing, however I'm not sure what exactly to download.

I have MSXML4.0 sp2 but nothing called MDAC, so again that might need addressing.

I haven't contacted PTC as windows 7 is unsupported.

You could download the nexessary files from Microsoft but on the Mathcad 14 M020 CD there is a directory calles \PreReq which contains the necessary install routines (As El Sid wrote they are not installed automatically) along with a langpack. If there are bug fixes available you will get them with the next M$ Update I guess.

I'm not sure if .net4 includes version 2, I guess no, but on the other hand I would have imagined that mathcad wouldnt start at all without. You may give it a try.

I would try contacting support anyway even if its PTC and Win7 is not officially supported by MC14.

http://www.ptc.com/olm/contacts.htm

Is it a student/academic/education license? Maybe - can help.

Just been through the prereq folder on the CD and installed what I could. It won't run the .NET file though, says it isn't supported for 64 bit. I've been on the phone to the uni again and it has been passed up their supprt people, so I will wait and see.

Thanks for all the advice, but I probably ought to stop fiddling now as I don't really know what I'm doing.

Or you can creat a new case directly for PTC's technical support ("Log a New Case" option):

Werner,

This link does not work.

Windose 7 is officially supported only from Mathcad 15 version. Software requirements for Mathcad 14 can be found here:

I just found the colour depth settings, I'm running on 32 for that.

That's quite usual anyway. The workaround of setting it to 16bit was for a different error (3D graphs not showing) which shows up quite often with Mathcad 14 and 15 on Win7 (especially 64bit). You may give it a try anyway and change it back then to 32 bit.

I really have no clue what the cause for that strange behaviour on your machine could be. If you find out (maybe with the assistance of PTC support) please post the cause and/or solution here.

Can you upload your worksheet? I would like to test it on Windows 7 x64 (but on Mathcad 15 F000).
