Please can you make PTC's eSupport accessible so you can navigate using the keyboard.

Please can you make PTC's eSupport accessible so you can navigate using the keyboard.

The DDA (Disability Discrimination Act) says that websites must be made accessible to blind and disabled people. So how can you check that your website actually has good accessibility? There are a number of basic tests you can make to address some of the main accessibility issues.

Check you can access all areas of your website without the use of a mouse.

Can you navigate through your website using just tab, shift-tab and return in Internet Explorer? If not, then neither can keyboard- and voice-only users.

Thanks

Hi Michaela,

I've taken the liberty of updating the title of your idea from Windchill to eSupport, as your comments refer to the eSupport sections of the PTC website, and others who may vote for this idea will want to be clear on what they are voting for.  Please let me know if any problem.

Technical Support is currently in the process of identifying new back-end technology for your website and tools, and so your request comes at a good time.

Checking the parts of the eSupport portal I'm closest associated with (article viewer and search), articles can be navigated and it is possible to leave feedback without using a mouse, however the "Document Actions" are not in scope. Index Search does require a mouse.

Question for you: Would Underline and Control + <Letter> work in place of shift + tab, or is there an online reference of common accessibilty techniques you can share with our team ?

Thank you.

Hi Peter,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I don't think I have been as clear as I could be. I didn't even see it had put eSupport in title, sorry.

I have a user of Windchill who needs to use assistive technology as he can't use a mouse. I was hoping that there is a way that he could navigate Windchill either using voice activation software, or use the keyboard to navigate Windchill.

Thank you

It probably doesn't make a lot of sense to have the support site accessible if the software it's supporting isn't accessible as well.  I suggest you leave this idea as is and then also create a similar product idea in the Windchill‌ community.
