CAM LOBES

I am trying to create a 4 cylinder camshaft with the lobes rotated 90 degrees for each with a spacing of 91.

I have created a sketch at cylinder 1 and tried to do a pattern using direction I set the spacing and the number, in the second section I select the rotation method and select the axis of the camshaft as the axis I then enter the angle and quantity but what happens is I get 4 sketches at each location each sketch rotated 90 degrees. what I want is 1 sketch at each location, each rotated 90 degrees from the last.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Steve

Don't use 2 directions - select 2 dimensions for the first direction.

from http://help.ptc.com/creo_hc/creo30_pma_hc/usascii/index.html#page/pma/part_modeling/part_six_sub/To_Create_a_Dimension_Pattern.html

"3. To select more dimensions for patterning in the first direction, hold down the control key. Specify the increment for each selected dimension in the Direction 1 collector on the Dimensions tab."

They should not call it first and second direction as much as primary and secondary grouping. You want a pattern that has only one group - the initial shape with 2 variables that control each member of the group, a distance along the camshaft and an amount of turn around the camshaft. What you have now is two groups: the first is steps around the camshaft and a second where the first group is repeated along the camshaft.

You could select individual members of the groups you now have by clicking on the dots that show where they will end up and telling the software to skip them, but just creating the 2 dimension, 1 direction group will be more direct.
