Length of pipe

Length of pipe

All,

I know this is something I can look up. A little pressed for time.

Isn't there a way to get the length of a "pipe" feature?

Have to clarify..

I am using simple advanced pipe feature, not Pro Piping. I am on WF4.

Did you get the answer yet?

Select the pipe geometry, RMB, Info > Feature

Total length is in there.

That one goes in the ptc tips and tricks folder!

Thanks Donald S!

Is there a way to access this value in a note on a drawing?

Thanks!

Janet,

I don't know if you can access this info directly, but you could create an
analysis feature which measures the length and put that value into a note
on your drawing.

The problem is that the analysis feature won't analyze the pipe feature's length (we're talking WF4 here, not sure about Creo). You can analyze a datum curve's length, but I was hoping there was another way without creating a datum curve in addition to the pipe feature.

Thanks!
Janet Grove

We create an analysis feature of the volume. Then divide by the surface of the section and assign it to a parameter. Then we show this parameter in a drawing note.

Sounds complicated but in fact it is easy. And we don't need the datum curve.

Hope this helps

Unfortunately it is not possbile to access the length parameter by relations.

Over a year ago, I created an idea for that at PTC Community (see http://communities.ptc.com/ideas/1050). You need to login with your PTC account, to see the idea. Don't hesitate to vote it up! 😉

Thanks for the ideas, everyone! Daniel, your relations idea is a great workaround. And I agree, Domenic, your enhancement idea needs to be implemented by PTC. We shouldn't have to add features and relations to access this value.

Kind regards to all,
Janet Grove
