Move Revolved Surfaces

I've got an assembly I want to clean up before taking it into simulation.  The parts are modeled with intentional mismatches, assembly clearance, etc. But for simulation, they need to be "just touching.  I don't really want to modify the source parts, but I'm OK with moving geometry with flexible modeling operations (and manage them by instance, simplified rep, or other).

See attached sketch.  Both parts are made with Revolve features.  What I'm trying to do is

  1. in assembly mode,
  2. Activate the right part
  3. Enter Flexible Modeling Mode
  4. Move the "J-shaped" feature down and towards the center so it's top edge is coincident with the mating part and the ID of the "J" is coincident with the OD of the mating part.

I'm struggling with the concepts of flexible modeling. I don't want to move the port somewhere else. The overall shape of the "J" can't change.  The "J" shape needs to be kept the same except on a smaller diameter.  The overall height of the part needs to be shortened to fix the axial mismatch; I don't want to move the whole part down because that creates a mismatch at the other end.

Is this something that can be fixed with Flexible Modeling?  See attached sketch for the Before (current) and After (desired) geometry.

Take a look at spinal bend which might work for you, I can't tell from the sketch and description if it would. It will certainly alter the mass properties (I, Mxx etc.) when bent if that matters in sim environment.

The other option I have used is to create a simulation variant of the model (just save a copy) and alter it. If I know something will be going to simulation I would usually create the geometry needed for the mesh within the source model and export it as a closed quilt to the mesher. I assume your sketch is a simplification of the actual geometry so it is hard to say how to approach this.
