exporting model for solidworks user

Hi,

I am trying to send a model to supplier that uses Solidworks. The part was created using a "copy geometry" surface and also contains a cosmetic sketch. When I save it as a .stp file, I am checking the "solids" and "annotations" boxes. When I open the .stp file in Creo, it looks identical to my .prt. When he opens it, he is still seeing the "copy geometry" surface and cannot see the cosmetic sketch. The cosmetic sketch would be hidden behind the surface if it was shown, so I'm not sure if the surface showing is the only problem or if the cosmetic sketch is disappearing also.

I have tried using some of the other file formats, but reopening them in Creo shows that some are still showing that surface and others don't include the cosmetic sketch.

any suggestions? Do I need to change my settings? does the Solidworks user need to change his?

Or is this yet another example of Creo not being able to do what I need?

In my experience this is just a case of Creo and Solidworks not talking.  I have had the same issues annotations in the past, with no real luck in solving the problem.  Hopefully someone will have a helpful answer for you.  I just wanted to let you know that this is a common issue.

I don't think it will work by using an intermediate step file.

But i think it can work if you directly convert from Creo to Solidworks.

You can find a converter that directly convert .prt to .sldprt on this page: http://www.datakit.com/cad-convertors/proe-creo-parametric-3d-to-solidworks-3d/25-3-0.html‌‌. It is possible to request a demo license to see if it keeps the informations that you need.

There is also a plug-in for Solidworks to open .prt files. But, as you don"t have Solidworks, it is not a good solution for you. But maybe your supplier should try it if he often needs to import Creo models.

When exporting a STEP, in the options dialog make sure you check "solids" and uncheck "shells".  That will eliminate the surfaces from the export.

When importing into SW, they may have to get into the options prior to importing and check some options to get the curves to import.  I ran into this before with curves and you can check this thread on the SW forums for some more info.  I'm not sure how SW will treat cosmetic sketches vs. curves, though.
