negative values in sensitivity analysis

I have to analyse some distances that oscillate around zero value.
Sometimes they are positive, and sometimes negative.
As the only method I know si to base analysis on distance measure, I always get absolute values.
I'm wondering how to get real value.
In an other way, isn't it possible to trace a calculated parameter.
This parameter is calculated within a relation, but how to trace it ?
Thanks
