Fall kick off - welcome back from summer holidays

Hello,

Our community has grown - now 19 customers, which is a good size for productive discussions.

Now that summer holidays are wrapping up, we'd like to ramp up discussions in September and October.

To be respectful of your time, we categorized discussion in 3 topics, so please join which every topic(s) are interesting for you:
  • "Cradle to Gate".  Most companies start here.  These topics cover "upstream" (material and component supply) and "operational" footprints (mainly factory).  Feature-wise, sample topics include CAD optimization, material selection, supplier management, material compliance, BOM roll up, Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) integration, and Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) generation.
  • "Cradle to Cradle".  These are circularity topics for both design decisions and service operations.  Feature-wise, sample topics include modular design (hardware and software), design-for-service, field service optimization, circular service parts logistics, and Digital Product Passports.
  • "Design for Sustainability".  We're actively building a requirements template for sustainable design best practices.  This team will gain early access to a shared instance of this template to discuss/advise on the usefulness/organization of the content.
We plan to have recorded kick-off calls on each topic in September or early October.  We'll share our current progress in these calls to start the discussions.

Thank you for interest and participation.

Regards,
Dave

Good evening,

We have set up a "Design for Sustainability" meeting for October 3rd to review the Design for Sustainability Requirements Template, and a "Cradle to Gate" meeting for October 23rd to review BOM Roll Up progress.  You should have received an invite to each one.  If you didn't, please reach out, and we'll add you.

Hope to see you there!  If you can't make it, we'll record both sessions.

Sincerely,

Dave

Hello, we added a third session on November 8th to review Windchill's material data model (which Creo plans to leverage as well).  We're seeking customer advice on how well this data model handles your sustainability use cases.  As originally planned and discussed in our Spring 2024 workshops, these material data progressions are currently "on plan" to increment through our 2025 releases.  ~Dave

Dear Dave,
I missed the Design for Sustainability meeting, will you upload the recorded session in the community?
I am not allowed to access the recording from MTeams.
Thank you very much.

Hi Benedetta,

Hi Benedetta,

Yes, I also see that the Teams recording is not accessible outside of PTC.  I'm not sure why.

I'm working with our Community administrator to find a way to share it with you.

Regards,

~Dave

This is the recording from the Design for Sustainability Requirements Template review.

Since the video isn't viewable outside of PTC from our Team's meeting, we posted it here.

Hi Dave, Elena, thanks for making the recording available.

I like your approach to create Sustainability templated requirements. Right now, without involving more engineering teams I would not be able to tell you if a brief, medium or extended set of descriptions works better for us. However, I think its great to have choices.

However, more important for us would be that we can adjust these templates for our major product groups where Design for X can be broken down into more tangible and actionizable recommendations to our design engineers.

Good progress! I am looking forward to the other meetings.

Hi Andreas,

Thank you for your feedback:

  • Based on early feedback, we will likely structure the topics with short descriptive titles, followed by a 4-5 bullet summary, followed by longer descriptions/tutorials.  This should allow the experts to use the template as a fast reference while also providing "drill down" detail for designers who want to learn more.
  • Aligned with other Codebeamer requirements templates, your company would derive the template requirements into their own.  Example:  A Requirements Engineer may copy template requirement ID 123 for "Fasteners for Design for Disassembly" to requirement ID 245 and derive it specific to the company/product (and break down into sub-requirements as you desire).  With this approach, PTC can continuously update the template without clashing with your derivative requirements.

Hi everyone,

As a follow-up to our Sustainability Requirements Template demonstration on October 3rd, we are excited to give template early access to the community! While it is not completed for launch, a lot of information is already in there. The design goal of the template is to support product development in implementing eco-friendly processes at every step throughout design, manufacturing, product use, and end of life. In the upcoming months before launch, we would like to leverage your feedback to improve the template and understand how we can better serve our customers.

Depending on where your company is in their sustainable journey, there are four different trackers within the template to browse. If you are interested in testing it out - please reach out to us directly for early access! We’re eager to gather your feedback and ensure this template aligns with your sustainability goals.

Sincerely,
Elena Angst
