We are upgrading to new machines and have encountered a permissions issue. Our new machines are Windows 7-64 bit. We are logged in as an admin and can only seem to install Pro/E once. After installation, we can not run ptcsetup.bat or ptcsetup.exe and get a permissions error. Apparently, our IT department can setup permissions to only allow an admin user to install a program once? We can bypass this by right clicking on ptcsetup.bat and selecting "run as administrator". Since we are already logged in as an administrator, no password is needed. Then ptcsetup.bat runs fine. Our admin rights are being taken away on the new machines, but even an administrator has to right click to run ptcsetup.bat.
The reason this issue came up is because we clone our Pro/E install to other computers. The Pro/E install folder is copied from the original computer and put on the network. Then the folder is copied to another computer so all of install settings are the same (license servers, starup directory, license configurations, etc.). However, we have to run the ptcsetup.bat to update the registry for that computer. The Pro/E install we did on the first computer was several months ago and this was the first time cloning was performed. We were worried cloning did not work on Windows 7 and we would have to install Pro/E from disk for all of our users.
So just a heads up in case your IT department changes permissions to make your day more enjoyable.
