Broken View stuck on "Heartbeat on Geometry"

I have two possibly interrelated issues.

First, I would like to be able to see the entire broken view clipping line instead of just the part that intersects with the model. I have a very long cable that I want to show both ends of (there is other stuff on either end much thicker than the cable) and have dimensions be correct off of. The clipped geometry without the line extending through the whole drawing just looks bad.

Second, and what I hope is actually causing the problem, is that no matter how many times I set the option to "heartbeat on view outline" and hit either "apply" or "ok", the clipping line locations don't change (I couldn't get creo to select any non-geometry point on the view, so I ended up invoking datum points where I wanted the clipping lines. At least I have them at the same height now since the cable is slanted...). When I close the view properties window and reopen it, the broken view is still set to "Heartbeat on Geometry".

Considering this is something I could do on a seven-year old version of solidworks in about two seconds, I can't find any hidden configuration options that remove the annoying behavior (altering config or default settings tends to solve a large chunk of functionality issues with Creo), and it's looking more and more likely that if I want to make this look nice I am going to have to sketch in the cutting lines... I am feeling... frustrated... with the software.

Google turned up a thread that may indicate the cutting line display issue is actually "working as intended" (which is also fairly rage-inducing), but there's no way the menu thing is right. (I'm a couple release dates back on creo 2, should be getting a new seat soonish and will grab the newest release date at that time. However, google should have turned up release notes if the problem had been addressed?)

Seriously, I have to agree with you on broken views. Being an old salt at Pro/E (2000i) I very much got use to sketching -exactly- what I wanted in broken views. It is a lot of work, but I always got exactly what I wanted.

Over the years, the broken views improved, but still suffers significantly as woefully insufficient.

This is still one of my classic favorites:
