Creo 3.0 first thoughts?

I attended a Hands On Workshop yesterday, and today I'm really digging into it on my own computer (Dell M3800, 16 Gb RAM).

It's freezing (Creo Parametric Not Responding) on my computer. A lot. On simple stuff, like reorienting the model, and creating a boundary blend. We don't plan on deploying until testing M020 for a couple months at the earliest, but as it is on my computer, the user experience is too painful.

Anyone else play with it yet?

I had the same problem, you need to log a case with tech support. Not sure why it’s a tech support issue…

I’m currently working on Creo2.

I would like to install and try Creo3, just for testing purpose.

Is it possible to keep Creo2 as principal PTC software?

Then What about HelpCenter?



I’ve just started a setup but
not shure it’s a good idea if I want to
continue my work on Creo2.

- Why PTC QualityAgent is obligatory?

- Is Now Mathcad included in packages (mine is Engineer III)?

It seems I could install it but never bought any license.

Yes, you can install both Creo 2 and Creo 3 at the same time. The installation locations are different, so you shouldn't have any issue with that. What you WILL need to do is make sure the "Start in" locations are different. After installing Creo 3, right click on the shortcuts (in the start menu and on the desktop) and set the "Start in" location to something different than what Creo 2 is. You also should create a config.pro file in this "Start in" location (working directory) with the line "load_ui_customization_run_dir yes" (without the quotes). This will keep Creo 3 from loading/saving config files in your user profile which will be problematic if Creo 2 is already saving them there.

Also, if you plan to connect to a PDM system (Windchill), be sure to add a line to the end of your PSF file directing the Windchill cache to something other than default, and something other than what Creo 2 is using. If you're just testing you don't want to run the risk of corrupting your existing cache.

Help center is a separate installation. It can be used standalone or integrated with Creo 3. I don't think installing the Creo 3 help center will have any impact on the help in Creo 2 (but I haven't actually tested it).

As far as Mathcad, the last I know it only came with Engineer IV, but that was a couple of years ago. PTC probably either changed their packages (unlikely) or maybe you have a "lite" version of it???

The quality agent is required to be installed with the Creo installation, but as soon as it's finished you can go back and just uninstall it. I haven't noticed any problems with having the quality agent uninstalled.

The problem you get with uninstalling the quality agent is you can't use the Learning Connector. At least in Creo 2. Haven't tried in 3 yet.

Hmmm. Seems to be working fine in Creo 3. I just double checked, the quality agent is NOT installed. 🙂

I thought there was a Creo Agent that couldn't be uninstalled and then there was the Creo Quality Agent that could. Although, I could be confused. More than usual even.

The Creo Agent is necessary to allow "new" workspace functionality - specifically the ability to access the same local Windchill cache by multiple sessions of Creo. You can uninstall it, but then you need to turn on the hidden config.pro option "enable_creo_srvmgrdb no" to keep it from being used and reinstalled.

Also, Per CS104032<,">https://support.ptc.com/appserver/cs/view/solution.jsp?n=CS104032>, in Creo 3 the Creo Agent installation was supposed to be moved inside the root Creo installation and also run from the network (for network installs). Neither of these is working correctly. (I have a case open.)

There is a misunderstanding here.

Quality Agent is the spyware that sends information off to PTC.

Creo Agent is the component that allows communication between different apps and supports the learning connector.

You want the creo agent. You don't want the quality agent.

When you begin the installation of a PTC Creo application, an appropriate version of the PTC Creo Platform Agent gets installed. PTC Creo Platform Agent is a system level component of PTC Creo that acts as a broker connecting other independent PTC Creo components. Installation of PTC Creo Platform Agent enables the following functionality:
* Invokes the LearningConnector for PTC Creo application
* Facilitates PTC Windchill SocialLink integration with the PTC Creo applications
