Creo Parametric 3.0 M190 product detection in SCCM

Hi,

We're using Creo 3.0 M190 in our environment, which is deployed through SCCM. It gets installed fine. Detection method used is to check 2 properties (Release and Shipcode) in registry key SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\PTC\PTC Creo Parametric\3.0\2018360.

Is this the right way to check existence of Creo 3.0 M190 in a computer or is there any better way?

Thanks,

Checking the registry keys is certainly a valid method of detection, but you may wish to add more checks as the registry keys can exist without the software being installed (the installation folder can be deleted and the registry keys are left behind for example), or pieces of the installation may have failed.

We typically specify multiple detection criteria based on the options being installed.  For example, if you include Creo View Express, check for the version information on the pvexpress.exe file, if you include simulate, check the version information on the simulate.exe file, and so on.  This method helps validate that everything you wanted to be installed was installed, and if there was a failure in the installation, the user can retry the installation from SCCM without external assistance (i.e. calling the help desk).

Regards,

Dan N.
