ShellExView is a great tool to find out which tools have installed themselves into Windows Explorer and/or the file dialog: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/shexview.html If IE8 or Firefox caused any issues, we'd certainly know by now 8-) I'm using VLC myself and haven't noticed any issues, although I haven't upgraded in a while, and may also not have used all installation options. I never used or installed DVDFlick.
