Flexnet Admin Server

Hi all,

I just want to know if this is possible?.

We have a customer case here, They want to transfer their license "Flexnet" in a virtual machine their reason is they want to lessen their workstation. Is it advisable to use virtual machine for Licensing?. If yes, What are the advantage and disadvantage?

Thanks,

Luar

Luar,

we use virtual machines as license servers and have no problems.

Advantages

  • you are not dependent on real hardware
  • you can set fixed MAC address for virtual machine, therefore you do not need to transfer licenses when you move the virtual machine to different hardware

Disadvantages

  • you have to be familiar with virtualization

Hi,

Thank you for the response. How about connecting in VM? is there a log issues? or any issue encountered by the client?

Thanks,

Luar

Luar,

We too run all our servers virtually. As far as the clients are concerned, there is no difference.

Hi Tom,

What is needed for VM flexnet deployement, what are the things to consider or to prepare to apply that setup.

Thanks,

Luar,

VM deployment is the task for your IT deparment. If VM is ready then get its HOST-ID (MAC address of network card) and ask PTC to move yor licenses to it. At the end install FLEXnet using Creo installation media.
