License Borrow via VPN

Has anyone used the license borrow functionality via a VPN? For instance,
can a user who has Pro/E installed locally on a home computer borrow a
license via a VPN connection?

Denise,

We have a lap top that we use the borrow license functionality when we will not be able to make connection to our licenseserver. However if I can get a VPN connection to our network, then I don't have to lock up that license for any predetermined period of time. I can simply start a new session and so long as I maintain the VPN connection I can continue to work.

I have had trouble acquiring a Pro/Elicense over our VPN. We work local to our Pro/E license server when we are in our office in the Chicago area, but when we are on the road, we need to VPN into our Iowa VPN server. Users at the Iowa plant can access the license server easily, but when we VPN into the network, the license server cannot be found. Also, drive mapping of the Chicago servers fails do to time-outs. Is there any VPN configurations that will fix our problems? PTC support says they do not support VPN, so they recommend license borrowing. We use Wildfire 3.0 & PDMLink 8.0and I am concerned our server registry will be lost if I designate a different license type. By the way, our PDMLink connection works perfectly over VPN.

Russ,

Ptc license works over vpn….when u vpn in, go to xp start – run – cmd…..in the dos window ping your server address to ensure you can actually see the license server.

Does UG have licensing borrowing (like Pro/E)?

We have a user that need to use UG NX4 on a laptop remotely (without
Internet access).
But I don't know if UG has borrowing implemented.

If it runs flexlm it should not be an issue if ug allows you to point to
a specific server to grab a license.
