Printer Config files

Printer Config files

Does anyone have any clue about .pcf files? I have some new printers that I need to reference to and I am not sure what info that needs to be listed in the .pcf files. Also is there a special way or layout the info has to be inserted for pro/e to understand?

Try playing around with the settings in the plot config dialog, and when you get things the way you want them (ie, with a successful output), hit the save button. Save the .pcf file as whatever name you want, then make sure it goes somewhere you can find it. Then, set pro_plot_config_dir in your config, pro to point to the folder where you are saving these .pcf files. They SHOULD show up in your printer menu next time. Personally, to avoid duplication I added mine to the folder that holds the PTC defaults. (in my case C:\PTC\proewildfire 4.0\text\plot_config) Hope this helps. c

Thanks chris does help some. My config.pro file does point to a folder where all the .pcf files are saved. I recently have opened a .pcf file up in a notepad application and in there was some text but I am not sure what I need to edit and or what fields are missing to make the new .pcf file that I am creating work properly..... You would think ptc would have some kind of "master" template and or info on this topic so you can have various printer config files.

well it all comes down to this old adage "...if a person cant be apart of the solution, then there is good money to be had in prolonging the problem...."

In the knowledge base on http://www.ptc.com/support/proengineer.htm if you type in pcf in the search - it comes back with 235 documents on the subject. Now filter in the left hand column to Wildfire 4.0 - 67 documents. Now filter to Suddested Technique - 7 documents including "Suggested Technique for Creating Plotter Configuration Files": http://www.ptc.com/cs/cs_27/howto/plt737/plt737.htm

Alternatively - when in Pro/ENGINEER, click Help > What's This? - then click on the "Print" icon. The on-line help should appear in (if you've installed it). Now click the link "To Print an Object: Basic Procedure", in that page click "SHOW NAVIGATION" - you should see all the help topics on printing and plotting including a page on "Plotter Configuration Files" which explains all the options which go in the pcf file. If you haven't installed Pro/ENGINEER Help, it is also available here: http://www.ptc.com/cs/help/proengineer/wildfire40/html/usascii/proe/default.htm and the specific help document on pcf files is here: http://www.ptc.com/cs/help/proengineer/wildfire40/html/usascii/proe/fundamentals/fund_two_sub/plotter_configuration_files.htm

Thanks that seems to give me a good running start!
