Sigh.... As I suspected, the verdict is in. I had multiple suggestions, and most started with, "Brute force......" While most of the suggestions centered around this, another underlying theme was that while config.wins may work in WF 5, redoing them was probably more than just a "good" thing, it's probably more of a necessity in the long run, which is exactly where we're at right now. Ours is working , some of the time, and not-so-working at other times.
However, I did have a couple of things that I knew (or had blindly discovered) that I thought were worth passing along to the community, in case there are others that are in the midst of switching to WF 5. The first one is about drawing mode config being different than other modes. That's because of the ribbon. The second is just a general road map on how a user might preserve their custom icons if they have any, and want to save them like we do
