SUMMARY: config option to uncheck the autosave box in Customize dialog?

Thanks to Doug Schaefer for the suggestion that worked:

Make 2 copies of your config.win on the server. One with a *.32767
extension and one with *.-32768 (the dash is important). This is the
largest number that a Pro|E file will increment to, but Pro|E creates the
special -32768 version as the 'last one'. I've found that you need both. I
don't think that Pro|E will recognize files with a larger number either.

The interesting thing is that it worked, but not for the reason he stated
below. Because we don't have a global config.win, and the whole point of
this exercise is to prevent users from creating one, I created two empty
text files, and named them as Doug suggested. I marked these two files as
Read-only, and then tested it by modifying the environment. It saved the
next file as config.win.-32768, and when I re-launched pro/e, it failed to
recognize them, and my local config.win carried the day.

Thanks Doug!

Glad it worked for you. I was making assumptions about your
configurations. We have both user and company config.win files here and
I figured this out so that I could prevent the users from changing the
company file, mostly to make my job of maintaining the file easier. If
they can't change it, it's less likely that I'll have to troubleshoot
why it's not working.

Out of curiosity, why are you locking users out of modifying their
window layouts? My experience is that users who can customize their
screen to their liking are happier and more efficient. I'm interested
in what you gain by making everyone have the same window layout.

Thanks,

Doug Schaefer
