View -> Update -> All Sheets

A co-worker insists that Pro/E WF2 would automatically update his drawing sheets when he activated the drawing window. Since the switch to WF4, he now has to use View -> Update -> All Sheets. Is there a config setting in WF4 that will update all drawing sheets when the window is activated? We have auto_regen_views set to YES (default), but it has not solved the problem.

is there an option save_display yes/no in your config.pro ?

If a drawing is saved under this option

- yes means the drawing will be opened as saved. You have to update your drawing, regenerating wont help.

- no means drawing will be regenerated on opening.

Hi Ryan...

This setting should solve the problem. Double-check to make sure auto_regen_views isn't being overridden in your config.sup file (Pro/E loadpoint/text directory).

In many cases users do NOT want auto_regen_views set to yes. Most power users prefer to update their views manually to avoid the performance hit you take when Pro/E constantly regens the views automatically. Sometimes you switch into the drawing for a moment and, if your models are large, you can wait up to several minutes for the screen to update. All of that can be wasted time if you didn't need the update at that moment.

Sometimes well-intentioned IT people or power users will go into the config.sup and turn OFF this option. Even if you have it set back to YES in your config.pro, the config.sup command will override the option and prevent it from working.

Otherwise, I don't know why you'd have this problem. I do not have WF4 running at the moment so I can't test the option. Maybe check PTC's knowledgebase? There's always a chance certain builds of WF4 had a bug relating to this option.

Thanks...

-Brian

Thank you Brian, I wasn't aware of the config.sup. However, that file does not seem to exist anywhere on the computer (installation directory, or anywhere else). Is it possible that it may have a different name or extension? Or is it possible that Pro/E is running without this startup config?

Hi Ryan...

Yes, it's possible that you do NOT have a config.sup file at all. Reinhard's suggestion below is also a good one. With the "Save Display" option, an image of the drawing is saved with the file. Upon retrieval, rather than regenerating all the view automatically, Pro/E simply displays the saved image. This only happens upon retrieval though... so if you notice your drawing isn't automatically updating throughout the workday, this isn't the problem.

If neither Reinhard's nor my suggestions are doing anything, you may want to call PTC and open a support call. Perhaps there's a legitimate bug in your version and build of Pro/E. This functionality hasn't changed and should continue to behave as your co-worker claimed in WF2.

Thanks!
