WF5 Dashboard

WF5 Dashboard

Does anyone have a legit reason why PTC took away the ability for the customerto move the dashboard to the bottom of the screen?

My only guess is that in order to implement the ribbon toolbar, they needed it at the top to allow the expanded areas to open downward.

Friday answer: Because Microsoft did Office that way!

Thank you,

We're still on 4, but I've moved my dashboard up to the top a long time ago... Seems to me to make for MUCH less mouse travel in normal working. The main menu and toolbars are at the top, so why would you want to pick up top, have to travel all the way to the bottom to complete things? And the pop-up toolbars are at the side.. I recommended that to our users... but only see a few who have adopted it. Even after I informed them that in 5 it wasn't going to be an option.

Thanks...

I did the same thing as soon as the dashboard arrived in WF1. I also
moved the model tree to the right to avoid having the dashboard
dropdowns cover the tree during feature creation or editing.

Has anyone listed all the differences between WF4 Pro/Cabling and WF5 Pro/Cabling. What type of problems or differences are there in making cables in WF4 versus WF5? We at Volvo are going to WF5 in a few months and I would like to know what changes we should expect between doing things in WF5.

Is the materials list ok, is spooling changed, etc???
If anyone has input to share I would appreciate it.

Doug,
And to really optimize your graphics area and model tree access, are you familiar with the config option for dual monitor use of enable_tree_indep yes. This will open the model tree in the primary window, separate from the graphics window. Unfortunately I have not been successful in assigning the graphics window to one monitor and the model tree to the other as defaults. So I simply drag the graphics window to my right screen on starting Pro/E and then each successive window I open. So the net results is the graphics window in the right monitor with imbedded layer status on to the left, and the model tree on the left monitor configured to the right of the screen. Not to mention the custom model tree options of adding other columns to the tree (Pro_MP_Mass, Pro_MP_Density...),and opening it bigger to take advantage of the space available on its own monitor.

Doug, Tim, All,

Great suggestions. Tim, what you describe is exactly how I prefer to set
up my windows. One addition to that is... Did you know that Mapkeys will
keep track of window positions and sizes??? I don't drag and re-size my
model tree every time, Instead, when I open a new window, I simply hit "F9"
and the model tree snaps over to where I want it and resizes correctly.
(Of course you don't need to use "F9". You can assign whatever variable
works for you.)

Good Luck
Bernie

Jim, Sure, along with a few others if your interested... Please see
attached file. "Window_loc_mapkeys.txt"

Disclaimers/instructions
No guarantees that this will work for your system. Window position will be
dependent on screen size and resolution.
These mapkeys are for WF4 and have not been updated to WF5, or Creo1 (they
may work but I have not tested them)
These only work when your Primary monitor is set to the RH side.
Must have your Config.win (customize screen) set for displaying the model
tree in a separate window. (obviously)
If you try to use this setup on a single screen system your windows will
jump off into "LH screen LA LA land" and you wont be able to find them.
---
F8 - snaps the active model window to the LH monitor. (is for when I have
multiple windows open and I want to look at both of them at the same time.)

F9 - snaps model tree to LH monitor.
F10 - snaps the model tree vertical split bar to 50%.
F11 - snaps the model tree vertical split bar to 85%. (so I can see long
feature names)
F12 - toggles the layer tree on and off within the design window. (Handy
for maximizing your working design window)

Hope this helps. Enjoy!

If you have to dig into the dashboard, you're doing something unusual.

The most frequently used functions in the dashboard are implemented in
rmb menus. The menus change depending on where the mouse is hovering.
Many very useful RMB menus hide under grab handles.

Learning these menus and getting accustomed to using them will save
time and a fortune is mouse miles.

Thats a good point, I never used the RMB for instead of the dashboard.

My other complaint is about the message status not being able to be moved.

Thanks
Joe

Does anyone have any current pdf pro/cabling training for Proe 4 or 5?
Thanks,
Evan
