Please give an example of what you are looking for.

  1. Creo requires 2 pieces of information when creating a new file:
    1. The Name field (Limited to 31 characters with no spaces)
    2. The Common name field (Tested with 123 character name length)
  2. These get mapped to 3 items in Windchill:
    1. The Name gets mapped to Number and File Name
    2. The Common name gets mapped to an internal parameter, PTC_COMMON_NAME, which is displayed in Windchill as the Name

We are often reusing the components for multiple products.

Windchill name should have product name with the component nomenclature while Drawing BOM must not have any product related information. BOM table displays only generic name.

Provide a Creo and a Windchill screen shot as part of your example.

We use the part number as the file name in creo. We have a creo parameter that gets propagated to windchill (description) for the part description.

The part number is not smart, just a number

Internal standards say we are not to use product nomenclature within the description (customer name, product name, etc). That way there is no problem with re-use of part numbers among different customers.
