version number on Pro/E files

Is there a way to turn off the dot number on the end of all of the Pro/E files?

I was wondering if there is a hidden config.pro option.

No there isn't.

That's how ProE keeps track of versions. It even happens in your Windchill cache, but it's just hidden from you. If you use the workspace cache recovery tool you will see that all the versions are there.

The best you can do is a purge and then rename the files that are left.

You might be able to tell Windows Explorer to hide them in the folder
display, but then you'd have a whole bunch of files that appear to be the
same. Dangerous business.

I need to ask. Why would you want to loose the extension?

If you were to do that, then your PC might think it's looking at UG-NX files. They end in .prt with no version number.

Only if NX was installed after Pro/E. PTC takes the .prt extension, too, as the default open for file type.
