working directory

why does the directory default change from my working directory when i haven't cahnged it. for example. i set the working directory. then open a part from a different directory. if i then go to open again, it defaults to the last directory that i opened a part from, not he working directory. also, if i was saving a new part it would save it in the most recently visited directory and not the working one. is this a config setting?

I could be wrong but I don't think your working directory has changed, the location where you are opening files has. Click on the folder browser and you should see a folder icon with what looks like a blue diamond in the corner. Click on it and see if it takes you back to the working directory you expect. You should also see the icon in the open file dialog box.

Cynthia, Try the config.pro option "file_open_default_folder". I have a feeling that if you set it to "working directory" your problem should be solved. Good luck.

I noticed this problem in WF2. At that time PTC told me it was a bug & would be corrected in a future release. We went to WF4 a couple of months ago & had update training. I asked our instructor about this problem & he confirmed it still exists & has not been corrected. I'll be working on an assembly out of dir 'A', goto dir 'b' to retrieve a part to assemble. Then create a new part & save it thinking I'm still in my working dir of 'a' but pro stays in dir 'b'.

Does selecting the working directory icon in the save file dialog box take you back to the the directory you were expecting?

I'm guessing but I'm not sure they see it a bug or problem because the working directory isn't being changed and they have provided a way to get back to the working directory if your location changes. Although it does seem it should be easy enough to add a config option for setting the default save folder like they have for the default open folder.

set file_open_default_folder to working_directory, so to open ,create new or save as a copy in working directory, while you can open from other

directory, and save to the same folder.
