Java API im runreport: how to get results

I want to use the java api to run a report and get the result.
It appears, from the documentation that running a report creates the output in the servers data/tmp directory.
From docs: "For security reasons, all file references on the PTC RV&S server are restricted to the data/tmp directory in the server installation directory."

Using the java api, is there any way to get the result of a report ?
