Hello,
I have installed Foundation, now I am working on installing Analytics. I got what i believe are the needed data (Key ID and Thingworx IP address.
I have attached screenshots of what I used and the error messages I got.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Hi @cmorfin
Thanks a lot for your great help. I am talking about ANSYS Twin.
I will go forward and read the materials in the link you provided. I hope things get smoother from there.
Thanks again.

Ghandour
Thank you for posting to the PTC Community.
I see in that attachment .docx, you are attempting to deploy ThingWorx Analytics using port 8080, but have SSL selected. Please verify that the port and SSL configuration are correct for the Platform Server you are using. Typically SSL is not used on the Dev Portal, so I would recommend deselecting "Use SSL?" box and trying again.
Regards,
Neel
Hi Neel,
Thanks a lot for your reply. I deselected the SSL, but I still get the same error. Are the other information are obtained the way I described in the word file? or differently?
Best,
Ahmed
Hi @Ghandour
In the docx file, the hostname for ThignWorx is incorrect.
You should enter the ip address or hostname, in the screenshot you have got an extra /Thingworx at then end of hostname which is not correct.
Christophe
Hi Christophe,
Thanks for your feed back. I tried it bust still not working.
I am using the info in the attached photo, but still get the same error.
I obtained the IP address from the page appears when I lunch the server. The Key ID is the one associated with: DevPortalAPP Key
Am I missing something here?
Thanks,
Ghandour
Can you confirm if you are using SSL on the Foundation server? I am seeing you are using HTTPS now, but still port 8080.
Can you also confirm if they Foundation server is not a trial edition?
Can you confirm if your Analytics Server is not a trial server?
Regards,
Neel
Hi @Ghandour
As indicated by Neel it is very important you are clear of what protocol is used http or https.
But also the top field is for hostname or ip address, not a url, so in the same way you should not have /Thingworx, you should also not have https://, you should only have the ip address or the hostname.
Thanks
Christophe
In this case I would recommend you open a case to Technical Support.
It probably will be more efficient indeed.
Kind regards
Christophe
Hi @cmorfin
I tried to open a case but this is the message I received.
Access Denied - Insufficient Privileges
I believe this is because I am on a trial period. Can you put me in a contact with someone from the support team please?
Best,
Ghandour.
Indeed access to Technical Support requires a valid Support contract.
As it seems you do not have one, let's continue here.
In order to clarify the situation could you please give the below information:
- the exact url where you downloaded the media for ThingWorx Analytics
- the exact way you created your ThingWorx Foundation server (again give the exact url where you downloaded media or build hosted instance)
- A screenshot of Composer showing Monitoring > Remote Things, please show the full browser window including the address bar showing the protocol used too. Make sure we can see all listed Remote Things if any.
Thank you
Christophe
Hi @cmorfin
Sure:
for downloading analytics: https://developer.thingworx.com/en/resources/trials/download#tab-analytics-trial-edition
for Foundation: https://developer.thingworx.com/en/resources/trials/download#tab-foundation-trial-edition
I am adding two screenshots as well. Please let me know if I missed something else.
I was trying to install Analytics server yesterday but I found that I need to update my Powershell. I am working on this now.
Best,
Ahmed
Hi @Ghandour
Thank you for this.
It appears that you selected the PTC Cloud trial for ThingWorx Platform hence your url devportal.ptc.io.
If you read the description of the PTC Cloud hosted instances at https://developer.thingworx.com/en/resources/trials/download#tab-foundation-trial-edition, you will notice that it includes ThingWorx Analytics.
We can see this in your screenshots, you do have the remote thing for Analytics already connected. You do have the Analytics icon present too.
So you do not need to install anything, it is already ready to use.
Kind regards
Christophe
Hi @cmorfin
Thanks for your inputs.
It is interesting, because I believe Installed the local install not the PTC Cloud, but I can see the analytics in the screenshot I sent to you.
As I talked to Mark Williford, I thought I need to download and install both the foundation and the analytics (may be not needed for the trial but for the future when i get the software)
So before closing this thread, Now I can use the Thingworx to deploy any simple Digital Twin example?
Thanks,
Ahmed
Hi @Ghandour
With the trial edition you will be able to go through the guides at https://developer.thingworx.com/en/resources/guides for the Analytics capability.
Regarding the digital twin, are you talking about Creo Digital Twin or Ansys Digital twin ?
In any case the setup is somewhat similar and if the machine running the agent has got access to this ThingWorx instance with appropriate appkey, then in theory that should work.

Christophe

Hi Neel,
Can you confirm if you are using SSL on the Foundation server? Yes, I am using SSL
Can you also confirm if they Foundation server is not a trial edition? It is a trial edition.
Can you confirm if your Analytics Server is not a trial server? It is a trial server.
I am planning to use the PTC thingworx to deploy Digital Twin work on the cloud. So I created a trial account to understand how it works first and make sure I have it right.
Best,
Ahmed
