The OTA firmware update is part of the SCM package in the platform and isn't embedded in the native apps. We can do remote monitoring and file transfer directly in the manufacturing apps, it is a separate "app" that does SCM. https://community.ptc.com/t5/ThingWorx-Developers/bd-p/twxdevs would be a better resource to answer this question.
