How to export data table entries directly to Excel file rather than .CSV file without using data export extension tool?

Without the data export extension (https://marketplace.ptc.com/apps/193619/data-export-extension#!overview) it's not possible out of the box. Why not to use the extension?

The other options:

• Building your own extension
• Use a third party (cloud service) service that generates excel files.
