how to upgrade Thingworx version from 9.5.4 to 9.6.0 using a War file?

Hello Developers,

I m trying to upgrade my running ThingWorxFoundationMSSQL-9.5.4-x64 on windows by using ThingWorx-Platform-Mssql-version-9-6-0 war file. I did all the steps which are mentioned on ptc page but it did not work.

So can anyone please help me to upgrade Thingworx?

Thanks.

Hi @Pratik_Aswale  what steps are you following? and what error are you facing.

hi @Surya_Tiwari I follow the steps from below link-

https://support.ptc.com/help/thingworx/platform/r9.6/en/index.html#page/ThingWorx/Help/Installation/Installation/manual_inplace_upgrade_windows_9_3.html#wwID0E5GUS

And after this all steps I restart tomcat but after few second it will automatically stop.

Hi @Pratik_Aswale  Can you share the logs here?

Hi @Surya_Tiwari Yes, Please check the Application and Error log.

Thanks.

Hello @Pratik_Aswale, in your ApplicationLog.log it clearly says that your ThingWorx version is still 9.5.4, not 9.6. So Tomcat didn't pick up that WAR file. Also, it seems that your ThingWorx was running for at least 20 minutes -- were you able to access Composer?

Hi @Constantine Thanks for your replay. Got it .

Can you please share some simple steps to change war file and run upgraded Thingworx?

Here's the detailed steps. This may look like a lot of work, but most of the steps won't apply to you, so you'll just skip them. In essence, the process is

  1. Take a backup
  2. Run the scripts to update your SQL schema
  3. Replace Thingworx.war in Tomcat

Hello @Pratik_Aswale
If you have succeeded in you upgrade, Please post the step you followed and issue which you resolved.
In checking the the logs it does appear that you need to update the version of Java to 11.0.22 for use with ThingWorx 9.6.0
